Phase 2: Reflection

I definitely felt like this phase was far more interesting for me than the first. Having a theme that I was invested in researching was a strong motivator for me. I realised during this phase that some of the creative stuff I was doing in my free time was centred around the concept of transhumanism, and that it was probably my favourite theme to work with. It just sorta checks all the boxes for me to get hyped. However, I do feel that this is somewhat limited to fictional transhumanism, such as becoming some badass cyborg or a genetically engineered superhuman, and I’m less invested in what is really on the way in the future, that is actually happening, and this, in my opinion, is somewhat of a weakness. Due to this lack of creative interest into real world transhumanism, I’m forced to base my ideas on creative works that exist, and that puts me at risk of just following tropes and clichés that have been established. Going forward, I will need to make sure not to misuse these tropes (not ignore and avoid them, mind, as they are just another tool for creating a design, and can be effective if used correctly), and make sure that what I create is my own idea, not just a rehash of other ideas that I researched into during this phase.
